Project Title:
Enhancing the UX of Youtube dekstop

Redesigning the Youtube website for dekstop to enhance the user experience by enhancing a part of its existing functionality

Role:
UX designer

Challlenge

On the YouTube desktop website, the current user interface presents a significant challenge to seamless content discovery. While users are watching a video, the adjacent right-hand frame displays a personalized list of recommended videos, curated by the algorithm based on the current video, past searches, and watch history. However, this list of recommended videos scrolls exclusively with the main webpage content. Consequently, users are unable to simultaneously watch their current video and independently scroll or scan through the right-hand recommendations to find their next desired content. This forces users to pause their active video playback to effectively browse the list, leading to a disrupted and inefficient viewing experience that hinders continuous content consumption and exploration.

Solution

To comprehensively address the fragmented and interruptive content discovery process on YouTube's desktop site, I have engineered a critical enhancement: the right-hand recommended video list has been endowed with independent scrollability. This fundamental functional extension directly resolves the need for users to pause their primary video playback. By providing the ability to seamlessly scan and preview future content options simultaneously while the main video continues, this solution profoundly elevates the user experience. It empowers users with uninterrupted multitasking, dramatically boosting efficiency and fostering a continuous, engaging flow of content consumption and exploration, thereby maximizing session watch time and user satisfaction.
